To Blog or Not to Blog?
To Blog or Not to Blog?
I’ve thought about blogging for years. Recently, I decided to just jump in & do it. I wondered why I waited so long to start. If I knew how freeing & wonderful it was, I would have started the first time it crossed my mind. Are you trying to decide if blogging is right for you? Today I’m telling you why it is likely for you & why for some it may not be, just yet.
Why Blog? Some do it to get information out to the world. Some do it as an outlet to let their creative juices flow. Some do it as a form of therapy. Whatever your reason, just know it is a valid, appreciated one.
Believe it or not, blogs have been around since 1994. They weren’t named that though until ‘97 as ‘weblog’ & shortened to ‘blog’ in ‘99, according to Notre Dame of Maryland University. I was only 13 in ‘97! Never knowing then, that my love for writing would bring me literally here on this page typing this today, “blogging”. I didn’t even know that such a thing existed then. Time & the events happening within it are amazing, aren’t they?! It’s mind-blowing really.
So why should one blog?
As I said before, it’s a great way to get information out to the world. Especially if you have something important to share with people. It’s a nice platform to be able to share life-changing information.
If you’re blogging to build your business, it’s a great way to do so. It can drive traffic to your website via social media to help grow your following on all platforms. They complement each other & work together nicely in that way. It’s a win, win.
You can make money off of blogging. Whether it’s extra pocket change or a full-fledged career the possibilities are endless.
Why you may not be ready to blog, just yet?
It’s hard work. It can be time-consuming & can keep you away from other important things in life, like family time.
If you’re looking to make it your full-time & only career you may want to get the experience & knowledge needed while you still have a full-time job & income. This in itself can be challenging. Having a full-time job, plus working on a side hustle that you’re trying to turn into a full-time career. It may also take some time to accomplish the kind of income you need to quit your 9-5.
That brings me to number 3.
It doesn’t always pay the bills. As I just stated, you must be well-established before you can make the big bucks. It’s definitely not a get-rich-quick scheme. Nothing of value is. It takes hard work & dedication to have your own business, even if it is in blogging.
Now with all that being said, if you’re like me & want to blog, just do it. Even if the timing seems off to you. Just do it. You’ll never know what you can accomplish or what you may love until you try. You have nothing to lose & everything to gain. If writing is a creative, therapeutic, or enjoyable outlet for you, then I recommend you blog.
Personally, I regret starting this journey so many years after the urge hit me. Heed my advice & start today.
My blessings to you,
~Angela~
